"In order to move freely, you must be deeply rooted..." - Bella Lewitzky
Originally from Jacksonville, FL, Rebecca moved to the Bay Area in 2009 after earning her BFA in Illustration from Ringing College of Art + Design in Sarasota, FL. After exploring a range of styles, media and career options for illustration, Rebecca spent her junior spring semester in Brittany, France exploring graphic design, abstract imagery and mixed media in the midst of visual storytelling. Upon her return to the states, Rebecca was then selected as one of four students to receive the Glass Fellowship Scholarship. Over the summer of 2008 she designed, planned and painted 5 mural projects in partnership with community organizations in Sarasota, FL. Most comfortable floating between fine art, design and community work, Rebecca decided to relocate to the west coast in search of community and arts education opportunities.
Arriving in the Bay via Menlo Park, Rebecca worked as a freelance designer for several startups while nannying. Her experience as a Lead Art Instructor for Galileo Learning made it clear that she belonged in education, leading to her enrollment in National University's online credential program. After student teaching in the Palo Alto Unified School District in the fall of 2012, she graduated with a CA credential to teach Visual Art and a M.Ed specializing in Teacher Leadership in February of 2013.
After teaching Drawing & Painting with Summit Public Schools for a year, she joined ACE Charter High School as their Studio Art II instructor. For the last two years, Rebecca has built a strong Digital Media program, developed extensive curriculum for the art department, written all UC course descriptions & AP Design programs, as well as led the school's accreditation self-study through the Western Association of Schools & Colleges.
